Kano Online Media Chapel Hosts Capacity-Building Workshop on AI and Journalism

The Kano Online Media Chapel has held a one-day capacity-building workshop for online journalists with the theme “
How AI Is Shaping the Profession.” The training was organized to equip practitioners with modern skills as the media landscape continues to evolve rapidly.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, said the workshop was timely given the growing influence of artificial intelligence in global media practice. He noted that online journalism has become the most far-reaching medium, while highlighting the chapel’s progress under the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), as well as challenges such as the need for office space and improved mobility for field operations.

In his goodwill message, the Director General, Media and Public Relations, Government House Kano, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, commended the initiative and reiterated the government’s readiness to support the chapel, especially through retainership arrangements that strengthen media sustainability. Similarly, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, pledged continued collaboration and announced plans for a more advanced training session outside the state.
The workshop, attended by dignitaries including representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, FRSC, and the Nigerian Guild of Editors, reaffirmed the chapel’s commitment to strengthening professionalism and embracing technological advancements.
The technical session on AI and Journalism was delivered by Professor Rukayya Yusuf Aliyu of Bayero University Kano, who guided participants through emerging trends and the practical impact of artificial intelligence on the future of the profession.
