KANFEST 2025: Kano Set to Host a Global Festival of Arts, Culture, and Heritage

The Kano State Government has announced the maiden edition of KANFEST (Kalankuwa) — a landmark festival of arts and culture set to showcase Kano’s rich heritage, creativity, and identity to the world.
The festival will be held from October 25th to 27th, 2025, at the Kano Trade Fair Complex, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, under the coordination of His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam.

In a statement signed by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, the event themed “Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future” underscores the government’s commitment to reviving cultural heritage, promoting creative innovation, and boosting cultural tourism in the state.
“KANFEST is more than entertainment — it’s a cultural rebirth,” said Comrade Waiya. “It’s about honouring our heritage, empowering the future, and using culture as a tool for peace, unity, and economic growth.”
Over the course of three colorful days, Kano will welcome artists, performers, investors, cultural groups, and tourists from across Nigeria and beyond — transforming the state into a melting pot of tradition and innovation.
Festival Highlights includes,Wrestling the Old Kano Way – showcasing traditional strength and valor, Majema Tanning Artistry Revealed – celebrating Kano’s world-famous leather craft Dukawa Leather Craftsmanship – blending innovation with heritage and All Tribes, One Stage – uniting diverse cultures through art and performance.
Comrade Waiya emphasized that KANFEST 2025 is designed to revitalize Kano’s creative industries, create jobs, and attract foreign direct investment (FDI) through cultural tourism and innovation.
“As we open our doors to the world, we invite everyone — within and outside Kano — to join this cultural movement,” he said. “Kano remains the cradle of Hausa civilization, a land of proud people and proud heritage, where culture connects communities and inspires the future.”
With the theme “Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future,” KANFEST 2025 promises to reaffirm Kano’s place as Nigeria’s cultural capital and a beacon of arts, heritage, and creativity on the global stage.
