IN MEMORY OF HAJIYA MARYAM ABDULHAMID MAGAJI

The Forum of Retired Information Officers, Kano State, with deep sorrow and profound sadness, mourns the passing of our esteemed colleague and sister, Late Hajiya Maryam Abdulhamid Magaji, former Head of the Graphics Department, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Kano State.

Hajiya Maryam Abdulhamid Magaji passed away on Thursday, 11th December 2025, after a brief illness. Her demise marks the end of a remarkable career defined by dedication, professionalism, and selfless service to the information sector and women in journalism.
Fondly known as Aunty Maryam by her colleagues and contemporaries, she was widely admired for her integrity, commitment, and readiness to support others. Throughout her service, she made outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) at both the state and national levels. She served the association diligently as a two-time Treasurer and later as Vice Chairperson, earning the respect and admiration of all who worked with her.
Speaking on her passing, the former Chairperson of NAWOJ, Kano State, Hajiya Halima, described her death as a great loss to the association, noting her unwavering commitment and dedication to the union. She prayed that Almighty Allah grants her eternal rest.
Similarly, the current Chairperson of NAWOJ, Kano State, Malama Bahijja Kabara, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Hajiya Maryam as a pillar of strength within the association. According to her, the late Hajiya Maryam was always at the forefront of NAWOJ activities at both state and national levels, offering guidance, wise counsel, and leadership. She added that her death has left a significant vacuum in the association and prayed that Allah (SWT) admits her into Aljannatul Firdaus.
Colleagues from the Graphics Unit, Hajiya Aisha and Hajiya Umma Abdul, who served under her leadership, also paid glowing tributes to her exemplary leadership style. They described her as fair, unbiased, and inclusive, operating an open-door policy that carried everyone along. Her tenure as Head of Department brought remarkable improvements and positive changes to the unit before her retirement in 2024.
Beyond her professional excellence, Hajiya Maryam Abdulhamid Magaji was a source of encouragement, compassion, and unity. Her kindness and motherly disposition endeared her to many, and her absence will be deeply felt by colleagues, friends, and the entire journalism community.
The Forum of Retired Information Officers, Kano State, extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We pray that Almighty Allah grants them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
May Allah (SWT) forgive her shortcomings and grant her eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. Her legacy of service, humility, and dedication will forever remain in our hearts.
