IBB Reaffirms Ancestral Bonds, Launches Hospital Project in Kano Community

In a significant gesture highlighting the importance of roots and heritage, Nigeria’s former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (GCFR), has vowed his continued support for the Kumurya community in Kano State, the ancestral home of his family.
The pledge was made during the launch of a new hospital project in the town, situated within the Rano Emirate. General Babangida, who was represented by former Chief of Defence Intelligence, Brigadier-General Halliru Akilu, emotionally connected his personal history to the development initiative.
He committed to improving the lives and welfare of the people of Kumurya, the very place where his grandfather was “born and lived before destiny took his grandparents to Minna.”
The event underscored the deep historical and political ties Kano State holds for the nation. Brigadier-General Akilu, who also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), recognized Kano’s pivotal role in national leadership, noting that the state has produced four of Nigeria’s leaders: General Murtala Ramat Mohammed, General Sani Abacha, General IBB himself, and General Abdussalam Abubakar.
The ceremony was graced by eminent personalities, including the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammed Isa Umar, and the Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulamah, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, signifying broad community support for the project.
This new hospital initiative not only promises to enhance healthcare access for the people of Kumurya but also stands as a powerful symbol of a leader’s enduring commitment to his origins, bridging personal history with community development.
