Gwarzo Local Government Area has announced a comprehensive ban on tree cutting particularly the use of mechanized tree-cutting machines as part of its commitment to environmental protection and community safety. Alongside this ban, the council has launched a wide-ranging sensitization campaign urging farmers to commence early harvesting to reduce the likelihood of friction with herders ahead of the grazing season scheduled from 14 November to 24 December 2025.
The directive was officially announced by the Executive Chairman of Gwarzo LGA, Dr. Mani Tsoho, during a flag-off ceremony held at the residence of the Village Head of Lakwaya. Represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Abdulmumin Garba Lakwaya, Dr. Tsoho led a delegation of senior security personnel and the Peace and Reconciliation Committee to sensitize communities on the importance of compliance for the safety and harmony of all residents.

The sensitization team visited village heads and community leaders in Lakwaya, Mainika, and Nasarawa, emphasizing the urgent need for farmers to clear and harvest their farmlands before grazing activities intensify. Engagements continued across Kutama, Jama’a, and Badari, where farmers and herders were reminded of the importance of respecting established regulations and upholding peaceful coexistence within the local government.
Traditional and religious leaders also pledged their support for the initiative. The District Head of Gwarzo, Alhaji Bello Abubakar Gwarzo—represented by Malam Kabiru Muhammad—called on community heads and Imams to intensify prayers for peace and strengthen moral upbringing among youths. The Village Head of Lakwaya, Alhaji Idris Adamu Danbargun, further appealed to the Kano State Governor for the establishment of a security outpost due to the community’s border proximity to Katsina State.
Representatives of herder communities, led by the Fulani Leader of Gwarzo, Alhaji Rabiu (Sarkin Fulani), assured authorities of their cooperation, including measures to prevent unregistered herder groups from entering the area. Senior officials from the Agriculture Department, the Gwarzo Divisional Police Office, and the DSS also delivered remarks reinforcing the importance of collaboration in sustaining peace and ensuring the success of the campaign.
