GOV. YUSUF CHARGES TASK FORCE ON ACHIEVING MAXIMUM VOTER REGISTRATION IN KANO

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening democracy by ensuring every eligible citizen in Kano State is registered to vote. The Governor issued the charge today while receiving a progress report from the newly inaugurated Task Force on Mobilization for Voter Registration at the Government House.
Expressing strong confidence in the committee’s work, Governor Yusuf declared Kano’s determination to solidify its status as the state with the highest number of registered voters in Nigeria. He urged the task force to sustain its momentum and leave no stone unturned in mobilizing all eligible residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“This task force is a critical part of our unrelenting efforts to deepen our democracy through enhanced civic participation,” Governor Yusuf stated. “My administration will provide its full support to ensure you succeed in this vital national assignment.”
Earlier in the meeting, the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Task Force, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, reported that he had already met with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner to assess the commission’s preparedness. He assured INEC of the state government’s full cooperation in providing a conducive environment for a seamless registration exercise across all 484 wards in the state.
The Task Force Chairman, who is also the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, provided a detailed briefing on the committee’s activities since its inauguration two weeks ago. He outlined a comprehensive mobilization strategy that includes:
· Collaboration with INEC: A supportive visit to the INEC office to establish a cordial working relationship and ensure no eligible citizen is left behind, irrespective of party affiliation or social background.
· Stakeholder Engagement: Productive meetings with groups like the Kungiyar Mawallafa (Association of Sermon Reciters) to sensitize them on their role in grassroots mobilization, and with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to deploy their expertise in voter education.
· Grassroots Mobilization: Meetings with all 44 Local Government Chairmen and Councillors, who have pledged to recruit volunteers to assist citizens with the online registration process in their respective wards.
