Ganduje Describes Kano State Government’s Call for His Arrest as Baseless and Reckless
The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed as baseless and reckless the recent call by the Kano State Government for his arrest over alleged comments relating to the establishment of a militia group.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Dr. Ganduje described the call as a clear demonstration of desperation and incompetence on the part of the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf–led administration. He said the allegation reflects a disturbing pattern of diversionary tactics rather than responsible governance.

Dr. Ganduje emphasized that the accusation by the state government amounts to an abdication of duty by a leader who has repeatedly failed to secure the lives and property of the people of Kano State. He noted that instead of confronting the rising insecurity across the state, the governor has resorted to chasing shadows and searching for scapegoats to mask his failures.
The former governor expressed disappointment that communities affected by insecurity—such as Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa—have yet to receive any form of visitation or empathy from the state’s chief executive. He said the governor’s absence in critical moments speaks volumes of his disconnect from the people he claims to serve and his inability to demonstrate true leadership.
According to the statement, Dr. Ganduje has never been associated with violence or connected to any act capable of undermining the peace and stability of Kano State. It further highlighted his eight-year record of maintaining security, noting that his administration earned nationwide recognition for safeguarding lives and ensuring sustained peace—an achievement it said stands in sharp contrast to the current administration’s lack of direction and ineffective leadership.
The statement called on Governor Yusuf to focus on his constitutional responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Kano residents rather than engaging in political theatrics and peddling unfounded allegations. It stressed that genuine leadership is measured by purposeful action, responsibility, and compassion—not by press conferences or issuing frivolous statements designed to divert public attention from governance shortcomings.
