Defence Minister Badaru Attends Screening of Newly Appointed Service Chiefs at National Assembly

Minister Reaffirms Federal Government’s Commitment to Strengthening Nigeria’s Defence Leadership

The Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, attended the screening of the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

PA (Media & Publicity) Office of the Honourable Minister of Defence disclosed that, Those screened include Lt Gen O. O. Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff), Maj Gen W. Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff), Rear Admiral I. Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff), and Air Vice Marshal S. K. Aneke (Chief of Air Staff).

The nominations, earlier forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, were presented in accordance with the constitutional provisions guiding the appointment and confirmation of senior military officers.

During the plenary session, the SenateIMG 20251030 WA0020 IMG 20251030 WA0019 President, His Excellency Godswill Akpabio, presided over the deliberations and commended the nominees for their professionalism, discipline, and service excellence, while expressing confidence in their capacity to reinforce national security and defence operations.

Following the Senate proceedings, Minister Badaru and the nominees proceeded to the House of Representatives Complex, where they appeared before the House Committee on Defence, chaired by Hon. Babajimi Benson, for further legislative screening and interaction.

The exercise was also attended by the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Maj Gen E. A. P. Undiandeye, senior military officers, family members, friends of the nominees, and other distinguished guests.

The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its commitment to supporting constitutional processes and ensuring a smooth leadership transition within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
