As Chairman of the Joint National Assembly Committee on the 1999 Constitutional Review, Senator Barau has demonstrated what it means to be a selfless nationalist. The committee, under his capable leadership, has spent two years traversing the length and breadth of the nation, engaging with critical stakeholders, civil society groups, traditional institutions, and interest bodies through town hall meetings, interactive sessions, and public hearings.

Addressing his colleagues, he urged them to crave and cherish nationalism as their driving force, reminding them that “the interest of Nigeria shall remain the key in all our deliberations.”
He pledged that the committee would review the proposed constitutional amendments clause by clause, ensuring that the voice, interest, and aspirations of the people guide every action taken. His commitment is clear, to give Nigerians a constitution that promotes unity, justice, and purpose, regardless of their political or ethnic differences.

He reminded them that the success of the party depends on their unity, urging both known and emerging aspirants to engage in dialogue and work towards reconciliation. For him, the strength of the APC in Kano and across Nigeria lies not in internal battles, but in collaboration and shared vision.
