ADUSTECH Refutes Misleading Allegations by ASUU, Reaffirms Commitment to Academic Excellence and Staff Welfare

The Management of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, has expressed deep concern over what it described as spurious and unfounded allegations made by the University’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The Management said the claims were aimed at misinforming the public about the remarkable progress and achievements recorded under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, and the support of the Kano State Government.

In a statement signed by Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi Deputy Registrar and Head, Information, Media and Public Relations Unit, disclosed that, Contrary to ASUU’s assertions, the University Management has, since Prof. Yakasai assumed office, vigorously implemented numerous developmental projects and reforms geared towards enhancing teaching, learning, and staff welfare.
Among the notable achievements include the renovation of lecture theatres and classrooms, installation of multimedia facilities, public address systems, and digital teaching aids to modernize the learning environment. The University Library has been upgraded with fibre optic internet connectivity from Galaxy Backbone, while the Central Research Laboratory has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and solar-powered electricity to ensure uninterrupted operations.
The Management also conducts annual renovation of male and female hostels, improving hygiene and sanitation to provide students with a comfortable living environment.
On the issue of audited accounts, the current administration inherited unaudited financial statements for the years 2020, 2021, and 2022. However, external auditors were engaged to clear the backlog, and the audited accounts have since been released to the public. The 2023 accounts are currently under review and will be published upon completion.

Regarding budget performance reports, the Management clarified that the Budget Monitoring Committee (BMC) could not function following the dissolution of the 5th Governing Council. With the constitution of the 6th Council, a new BMC has been inaugurated and has already reviewed the first and second quarters of 2025.
On academic staffing, the Management revealed that it inherited several newly established departments that lacked adequate personnel and facilities. Requests for new recruitment were submitted, and the state government approved part of the proposal, contributing to the University’s successful 2023 accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Further recruitment approvals are expected soon.
In relation to contract appointments, the University explained that non-indigene academic staff were initially given permanent appointments before a government circular mandated contract-based employment for non-indigenes. The issue is currently under review by a committee set up by the Ministry for Higher Education.
Concerning electricity supply, the Management noted that no part of the University was disconnected. However, due to the rising cost of energy on Band A, supply was rationed to manage the monthly bill of ₦60 million, which was unsustainable.
Prof. Yakasai’s administration also inherited over ₦2 billion in staff liabilities, 80% of which have been settled through the intervention of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Payments covered Earned Academic Allowances, Hazard Allowances, SIWES/TP/Field Work allowances, Family Air Tickets, and promotion arrears. Additionally, the University has forwarded the outstanding 25% and 35% salary increments to the State Government for consideration.
The Management commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unwavering commitment to education, citing policies such as the State of Emergency on Education, Foreign Scholarships for exceptional graduates, and the allocation of over 30% of the state’s budget to education. These efforts have significantly contributed to Kano’s impressive performance in the recent WAEC examinations.
In conclusion, the Management described ASUU’s allegations as politically motivated, recalling that some signatories had previously made unfounded claims against the State Government’s education reforms. The University therefore urges the general public to disregard the misleading statements and assured that it remains focused on its mission to improve staff welfare, enhance academic excellence, and provide quality education to its students.
