BARAU JIBRIL: THE VOICE OF COURAGE IN A SILENT NORTH – THE HISTORIC SPEECH THAT REAWAKENED AREWA.
By Shariff Aminu Ahlan
At a time when insecurity has turned northern Nigeria into a battlefield, and when many elites prefer silence to responsibility, Senator Barau Jibrin stood out once again as the only political figure with the courage to confront the truth. His historic speech at the 25th Anniversary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kaduna was not just a contribution, it was a bold awakening for a region drowning under fear, complacency, and failed leadership.
Barau Jibrin reminded northern leaders that the problems facing the region are solvable and that insecurity is not unique to the north. He stressed that West African countries and even neighboring regions in Nigeria face similar threats, yet some, like the Southwest, confronted the challenge head-on.

He openly declared that if the Southwest could unite under Amotekun and secure their zone, then the North, with its numbers, resources, and influence, has no excuse for its helplessness. His message was simple and firm: the North must unite, act, and stop pretending it is powerless.
In his speech, he emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently supported northern concerns whenever properly presented, challenging the false narrative that the presidency ignores northern issues. He called on northern governors, senior stakeholders and the ACF leadership to leverage increased federal revenue, coordinate with the National Assembly, and build a collective structure that confronts insecurity decisively. Barau left no room for doubt: a fragmented North has no future, but a united North can defeat its insecurity.
Responding to Prof. Jibrin’s prediction about a bleak northern future, Barau fired back with unwavering confidence: “It will never materialize, not if we put our heads together”. The ACF must awaken to its true mission.

This fearless conviction is not new. Barau Jibrin has always spoken when others feared consequences. When former U.S. President Donald Trump made false and inflammatory allegations about Nigeria and threatened military action, every major politician avoided the issue, except Barau. He stood up in the National Assembly to defend Nigeria’s sovereignty, boldly warning Trump that Nigeria is not a satellite state to be bullied. That patriotic stance drew nationwide applause and cemented his reputation as a defender of the people.
Today, Barau brings the same courage to Arewa’s insecurity crisis. While many northern politicians are preoccupied with political rallies, petty factional battles, and personal gains, Barau focuses on solutions, unity, and protecting human lives. He is redefining political culture in Kano by proving that leadership is not about fanfare but responsibility.
Beyond his patriotic voice, Barau remains the most accomplished senator in the political history of Kano State, delivering unprecedented projects across his senatorial zone, roads, electrification, schools, healthcare, empowerment programs, and federal intervention projects long unseen in Kano North. He has transformed his constituency into a model of development, touching the lives of thousands and setting records no senator in Kano has ever matched.
His achievements, influence, credibility, grassroots acceptance, and national connections place him on a political ground that no incumbent can match in 2027. He enters the next political cycle not as a contestant, but as a phenomenon backed by facts, delivery, and the trust of the people.
Yet, despite his massive political weight, Barau has not abandoned the suffering of his people. His Kaduna speech proved once again that he is guided not by ambition but by duty, a rare attribute in today’s political climate. He stands tall as the northern patriot who refuses to stay quiet while the region burns.
In a land where too many leaders speak only when their pockets are threatened, Barau Jibrin stands as the courageous voice, the problem-solver, the patriot, and the symbol of a new Arewa.
His message was simple, his warning clear, and his resolve unshakable:
The North will rise again, but only if leaders adopt responsibility, unity, and action. And Barau Jibrin is leading that new path.
