Kano Issues Directive on Immediate Exit of Retired Civil Servants

The Kano State Government has directed civil servants who have attained the statutory retirement age or completed the required years of service to immediately leave the public service and hand over all official documents, government property and assigned responsibilities.

The directive is contained in Circular No. 10/2026, dated October 6, 2026, issued by the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Kano State, through the Permanent Secretary, Establishment Directorate, Abba A. Danguguwa.

According to the circular, the directive followed reports that some retired officers have continued to remain in service and perform official duties after reaching the statutory retirement period.

The circular stated that remaining in service beyond the approved retirement age or years of service is inconsistent with the provisions of the Kano State Civil Service Rules and other applicable service regulations.

It directed all officers who have retired, either by age or length of service, to immediately hand over all official documents, government property and their duties to their immediate subordinates or designated officers in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The government also instructed Permanent Secretaries, Chief Executives, Accounting Officers and Directors of Administration/Personnel Management to ensure immediate compliance with the directive.

It further warned that any officer found to be aiding, abetting or permitting the continued stay of retired officers in service would be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with the Civil Service Rules.

The circular stated that the directive takes immediate effect.
