Kano Assembly Wins National Excellence Award for Hansard Reporting

The Kano State House of Assembly has been recognised as Nigeria’s best State Legislature in Hansard and Verbatim Reporting, receiving a national award from the Association of Hansard/Verbatim Reporters of Nigeria during its annual conference in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the award acknowledges the Assembly’s outstanding performance in the timely production and dissemination of official parliamentary proceedings.
Presenting the award to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Bashir Diso, said the Kano State House of Assembly emerged the overall best among the 36 State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria. He attributed the recognition to the Assembly’s consistent ability to produce and circulate Hansard reports within 24 hours of plenary sittings.
Diso noted that the Association, whose membership includes legislative reporters from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and other countries, unanimously agreed that the Kano Assembly deserved the honour for its commitment to professionalism, transparency and efficiency.
Also speaking, the Deputy Clerk of the House, Alhaji Aminu Zubairu, said the Assembly has maintained international best practices in parliamentary reporting, explaining that only a few legislatures worldwide consistently meet the 24-hour benchmark for the release of Hansard reports.
He added that the Assembly produces various categories of parliamentary reports, many of which are published on its official website to enhance public access, accountability and openness in legislative activities.
Zubairu described the award as a testament to the visionary leadership of Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore and the dedication of the Assembly’s workforce. He said the achievement was made possible through the provision of modern working tools, including laptops and computers, as well as sustained investment in technology and a conducive working environment.
He also expressed appreciation to the Speaker for his unwavering support and commitment to strengthening the institutional capacity of the Kano State House of Assembly.
The Association of Hansard/Verbatim Reporters of Nigeria is a professional body of legislative staff responsible for the accurate documentation of parliamentary proceedings. Its annual conference attracts delegates from Nigeria and several other African countries, including Ghana and Kenya.
