The Acting Director General of the Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), Hajiya Khadija Sa’id, has reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to working with the National Association of Barbers, Hairdressers and Cosmetologists to promote public health, hygiene, and compliance with regulatory standards across Kano State.
She made the commitment while receiving the executive members of the association, led by Comrade Paul, during a courtesy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Kano.

Welcoming the delegation, Hajiya Khadija Sa’id commended the association for its dedication to professionalism and safeguarding public health. She emphasized the need for salon operators, barbers, and cosmetologists to maintain high standards of hygiene and strictly comply with health regulations to protect both practitioners and their clients.
The Acting Director General also advised operators to promote natural beauty and discourage the use of harmful chemicals that could endanger the health of customers and service providers. She urged salon owners to educate clients on the benefits of preserving their natural skin complexion and avoiding products that pose serious health risks.
She further explained that all laws and regulations governing health-related establishments equally apply to beauty salons, barbershops, and cosmetology centres. According to her, every operator is required to register with PHIMA before commencing operations and renew the registration annually. She noted that failure to renew registration within the stipulated period attracts an additional 50 percent surcharge on the approved renewal fee.
Hajiya Khadija stated that registered establishments would receive official certificates and be captured in PHIMA’s database, enabling the Agency to maintain accurate records and strengthen regulatory oversight. She also cautioned members against making payments to unauthorized individuals, stressing that PHIMA has no agents authorized to collect money on its behalf. She explained that all payments must be made directly into designated government accounts.
Also speaking, the Director of Medical Services, Dr. Sulaiman Ibrahim, disclosed that PHIMA regularly organizes training programmes, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives for registered operators. He noted that registration with the Agency provides numerous benefits while assuring members that all fees collected by PHIMA are remitted directly into government accounts.
The Director of Pharmacy Services, Pharm. Sani Haruna, reiterated the Agency’s commitment to enforcing compliance with established regulations. He revealed that PHIMA conducts both routine and unannounced inspections of salons and cosmetology centres, warning that any establishment found violating the law would face appropriate sanctions.
Responding on behalf of the delegation, Comrade Paul expressed appreciation to the Acting Director General for receiving the association. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to partnering with PHIMA in promoting professionalism, public safety, and strict adherence to regulatory standards among its members.
The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their resolve to strengthen collaboration in advancing safe, hygienic, and professionally regulated beauty and cosmetology services for the benefit of practitioners and the people of Kano State.
