Achievements of His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf in the Health Sector of Kano State

Under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the strategic oversight of the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the Kano State Government has recorded significant milestones in revitalizing the health sector. These efforts are geared towards delivering quality, accessible, and people-centered healthcare services across the state.
Rehabilitation of Training Institutions
The administration has commenced the ongoing renovation and upgrading of Schools of Nursing across Kano State. This initiative aims to elevate the standard of healthcare education and produce well-trained professionals capable of meeting the growing demands of the sector.
Upgrading of Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital
In a major boost to child healthcare, the government has undertaken comprehensive rehabilitation, re-equipping, and re-furnishing of the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital. The facility has been restored to modern standards to provide specialized and efficient paediatric services to the people of Kano.
Free Medical Support Programme
As part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to reducing the financial burden on citizens, free drugs and laboratory consumables were provided to all patients at Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital from August to December 2023. This directive has continued to ease access to essential care, particularly for vulnerable children and their families.
Improvement of Emergency Services
The Accident and Emergency Unit at the iconic Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital has been fully rehabilitated and re-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The upgraded unit has been successfully commissioned and is now better positioned to handle emergencies with improved speed and efficiency.
Employment of Healthcare Workers
To strengthen the health workforce, the government has recruited 36 House Officers and 70 Medical Officers. This strategic recruitment is already enhancing service delivery and reducing the strain on existing personnel across various healthcare facilities in the state.
