Kano State Ramps Up Fight to Reach Zero-Dose Children in 15 LGAs

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KNSPHCMB) has convened a high-level strategic meeting with health leaders from 15 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to intensify efforts to identify and vaccinate zero-dose children—those who have missed out on routine immunization entirely.
Held at the Board’s Headquarters in Naibawa, the engagement brought together Primary Health Care Coordinators (PHCCs) and Routine Immunization Officers (RIOs) to drive a targeted response aimed at eliminating immunization gaps in high-burden communities.

Leading the charge, the Director General of KNSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, reaffirmed the state’s unwavering commitment to reaching every missed child. He emphasized that eradicating zero-dose pockets remains a critical public health priority, urging officials to leverage data precision, strengthen field supervision, and intensify community mobilization to achieve measurable improvements in coverage.
“This is about ownership and accountability,” said Professor Ibrahim. “We must ensure coordinated implementation and performance monitoring at the LGA level to deliver results that reflect Kano’s leadership in primary health care reform.”
In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Board Sa’adatu Suleiman further disclosed that, The RI Targeted Response framework, which was a central focus of the meeting, is supported by the Gates Foundation in collaboration with implementing partners including Solina Centre for International Development and Research, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Chigari Foundation, and Acasus. This multi-partner collaboration underscores a collective resolve to safeguard the health of every child in Kano State.
