Katsina Assembly Charges LG Councils on Proper Budget Implementation
The Katsina State House of Assembly has charged local government councils across the state to remain committed to proper and transparent implementation of their 2026 budgets.
Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Danjuma Machika, gave the charge during the ongoing 2026 budget defence sessions for local government councils. He noted that prudent budget implementation would enhance economic activities at the grassroots and significantly improve the living standards of the people.

“As representatives of the people and members of the committee, we will closely monitor all spending of the local government councils to ensure public funds are judiciously utilised,” he said. He explained that the budget defence exercise was not aimed at witch-hunting anyone, but rather to scrutinise budget proposals in line with constitutional provisions and ensure accountability.
In his remarks, Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Abduljalal Haruna Runka, described the exercise as an annual constitutional responsibility of lawmakers to ensure that councils adhere strictly to financial rules and regulations. He called on council chairmen to cooperate fully with the committee to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
During the session, Baure, Mai’adua, Sandamu and Zango local government councils presented their 2026 budget estimates. Baure presented a budget of N8.4 billion, Mai’adua N9 billion, Sandamu N7.4 billion, while Zango submitted N7.6 billion.
The budget defence exercise is expected to feature all 34 local government councils in the state as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery at the grassroots level.
