Millions Gather in Katsina for Historic Sheikh Niasse Maulud

Over three million faithful from across Nigeria and West Africa converged on Katsina State for a week-long commemoration of the Maulud (birthday) of the revered Tijjaniyya spiritual leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse. The historic 2026 event, held at the Dukko Radda Stadium, marked the 40th anniversary of the annual gathering.
Organized by the Majma’u Ahbab Niasse association, the event drew prominent Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, and followers from all 36 Nigerian states and neighboring nations. The gathering aimed to honor Sheikh Niasse’s life and teachings while offering prayers for peace, unity, and economic development in the region and Nigeria.

In his address, the President of Majma’u Ahbab Niasse, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Sani Auwal, commended the Katsina State Government for providing a secure and conducive environment. He noted this was the third time Katsina had hosted the event, following prior hostings in 2002 and 2016.
The Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, emphasized unity among Muslims and highlighted Sheikh Niasse’s profound role in spreading Islam across Africa. Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting religious activities that promote social cohesion and peace.

Dignitaries included representatives from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and a delegation from Senegal representing Khalifa Sheikh Mahi Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse. The week culminated with Qur’anic recitations, prayers, and lectures celebrating the enduring legacy of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse.
