Health Sector and Media Collaborates To Boost Primary Health Care Delivery in Nigeria

A High-Level Health Media Dialogue has brought together top representatives from the Federal and State Governments, alongside media executives and health communicators, to reinforce collaboration and advocacy toward improving Primary Health Care (PHC) delivery across Nigeria.
In statement signed by Nabilisi Abubakar Kofar Naisa Public Relations officer Ministry of Health Kano State disclosed that, The dialogue served as a strategic platform to strengthen the partnership between health policymakers and the media, fostering transparency, accountability, and effective communication to achieve better health outcomes for Nigerians.

The discussions focused on enhancing healthcare financing, ensuring transparency and accountability, and aligning policy actions with both national health priorities and global health goals. Participants unanimously agreed that accurate media reporting and effective information dissemination are essential in promoting accountability, driving reforms, and sustaining public confidence in the health system.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming the nation’s health sector. He noted that in the past two years, the government has built a strong national consensus around its development agenda, adding that “the results of these collective efforts in the health sector are beginning to manifest.”
Also present at the dialogue were the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, and the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, who endorsed the resolutions reached during the event. They pledged continued collaboration across all levels of government to ensure equitable, accessible, and sustainable PHC services for all Nigerians.

In his remarks, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to advancing quality health care delivery at the grassroots level. He explained that under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the State has intensified investments in:
Dr. Yusuf highlighted Kano’s significant progress in routine immunization, maternal and child health programs, and disease prevention initiatives, all aimed at strengthening community participation and ensuring long-term sustainability. He emphasized that these achievements align with the Federal Government’s health reform agenda and reaffirm Kano’s determination to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all residents.
The dialogue concluded with a joint resolution to sustain collaboration between the media and the health sector as a key driver of effective policy advocacy, public engagement, and transparent health governance.
