The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya was conferred with an Honourary Award by the War Against Drugs Abuse (WADA) command for his exceptional contributions to public enlightenment and the fight against substance abuse.
The award presentation coincided with the Commissioner reaffirming the state government’s commitment to a massive voter registration and mobilization campaign.

In his remarks, Comrade Waiya, who also chairs the Taskforce Committee on Voters’ Mobilization and Awareness, announced that Kano State is currently leading in the national physical voter registration exercise. He revealed that the committee is finalizing a strategic plan to register millions of additional eligible voters across the state.
“Our goal is to ensure every eligible resident of Kano is empowered with their Permanent Voter Card (PVC),” stated Comrade Waiya. “We are building on our current lead in the national exercise and are committed to intensifying our awareness campaigns to achieve total inclusivity.”

The Commissioner praised the Quadripartite Alliance for Voters Registration for their steadfast teamwork. The Alliance’s Chairman, Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, outlined their grassroots strategy, which tasks each volunteer with registering a minimum of forty people daily, with an overall target of five million new voters in Kano.
The Deputy State Commander of WADA, Alhaji Yakubu Abdullahi, presented the honourary award to Comrade Waiya, citing his consistent advocacy for a drug-free society and his active collaboration with stakeholders.
“This recognition is well-deserved, given Comrade Waiya’s unwavering commitment to public enlightenment, peace advocacy, and the crucial battle against drug abuse in our communities,” Alhaji Abdullahi said.
In accepting the award, Comrade Waiya expressed his gratitude to WADA and reaffirmed his dedication to key social issues.
“I am deeply honored by this recognition from WADA,” he said. “This award strengthens my resolve to continue the fight against drug abuse, child abuse, and gender-based violence. My partnership with the NDLEA and commitment to women empowerment and civic education in Kano remains steadfast.”
