Minister Badaru Charges Army War College Graduates to be Guardians of National Security

The Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, CON, mni, today charged graduating officers of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) to lead with integrity, courage, and an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning.
The Minister delivered the keynote address as the Special Guest of Honour at the graduation ceremony for AWCN Course 9/2025 on Friday, October 9th, in Abuja.
In his speech, Minister Badaru described the event as “a true celebration of intellectual rigour, national investment and military excellence.” He commended the Chief of Army Staff, the Commandant, and the faculty for their dedication to professional military education, which is central to developing Nigeria’s operational-level military leaders.

Addressing the graduands directly, the Minister emphasized the critical role they will play in the nation’s security architecture. “Always remember that you are the guardians of our nation’s security,” Badaru stated. “Serve with pride, uphold our values and never lose sight of the sacred trust placed in you.”
He underscored that modern military leadership demands continuous adaptation to emerging threats and technologies, urging the officers to remain committed to professional development.
Minister Badaru also expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast support of the Armed Forces under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He highlighted that this agenda, which prioritizes military modernization and regional security cooperation, places the graduates at the heart of efforts to build a safer, more prosperous Nigeria.

The Minister recognized the sacrifices of the graduands’ families, calling them the “unseen heroes” of the Armed Forces. He also acknowledged the participation of allied students from other African nations, noting that their presence strengthens regional solidarity and enriches the training experience.
The ceremony concluded with a clear charge to the graduates to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and patriotism in their future assignments.
