Kano State Hydro Power Plant Scheduled to Commences Operations in 2026

The Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Dr. Ghaddafi Sani Shehu, has announced that the Kano State Hydro Power Plant is projected to commence operations by the first quarter of 2026.
This revelation came during an inspection visit to the Tiga 10 Mega Hydro Power Plant and Challawa Dam Karaye Hydro Power Plant.

During the visit, Dr. Ghaddafi Sani expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing progress of both hydro power projects and reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to enhancing power supply in Kano State.
He highlighted that the completion of these projects is expected to provide a reliable power supply, significantly increasing the capacity from 10 megawatts to even higher levels.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Ministry Faruk Umar Saad stated that, Dr. Ghaddafi underscored the critical role of renewable energy in achieving sustainable power solutions and indicated a dedication to exploring innovative methods to fully utilize the state’s renewable energy potential.

He emphasized that advancements in the power sector would lead to substantial benefits for the residents and businesses of Kano State.
The Commissioner credited these achievements to the strategic policies and programs implemented under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
In his remarks Engineer Ado Ibrahim Doguwa, Managing Director of Kano Hydro, while addressing attendees, highlighted that Kano is pioneering as the first state in Nigeria to establish its own hydro power plant. He praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unwavering commitment to improving the well-being of the state’s citizens.
