New Hand Pump Borehole Launches in Yar Kanya, Ending Long-Standing Water Scarcity

The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) has officially commissioned a new hand pump borehole in Yar Kanya Town, Gabasawa Local Government Area, marking a significant milestone in the effort to provide clean and reliable water to the community.
The successfully completed project is set to end the community’s long-standing challenge of water scarcity by providing a sustainable and portable drinking water source. This initiative represents a critical step forward in the local government’s development agenda and its commitment to improving public health.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Agency Hassana Saleh stated that, During the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director of RUWASA, Engineer Shamwilu Abdulkadir Isah (Tsamiyya Babba), emphasized the importance of community ownership for the facility’s long-term sustainability.

“The success of this project does not end with its completion; it begins with its use and care by the community,” stated Engineer Isah. “We entrust this facility to you. Its sustainability is key to continuing the provision of safe drinking water and improving public health through better sanitation.”
The Chairman of Gabasawa Local Government, Pharmacist Kabir Usman Tarauni, commended RUWASA for the initiative and assured continued collaboration to enhance development across the area.
In his remarks, a community leader, Malam Abdullahi, expressed profound gratitude to the State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for fulfilling the administration’s promise to provide essential infrastructure. He praised the Governor’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of rural communities.
The new borehole is expected to significantly reduce waterborne diseases and improve the overall quality of life for the residents of Yar Kanya.
