Ministry of Defence Strengthens Nigeria-U.S. Defence Ties in High-Level Meeting

The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, today welcomed the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Richard M. Mills, Jr., in a significant courtesy visit at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Ship House, Abuja.

The meeting underscored the strong bilateral relationship between Nigeria and the United States, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to enhancing diplomatic and defence cooperation for regional stability and global security. Discussions centred on deepening collaboration in critical areas, including counterterrorism, defence procurement, intelligence sharing, and military training.

Honourable Minister Abubakar expressed appreciation for the United States’ sustained support in strengthening the operational capacity of Nigeria’s Armed Forces. Both leaders acknowledged the evolving security challenges in West Africa and emphasized the need for coordinated action through established bilateral frameworks and upcoming technical engagements.

Aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes strategic international partnerships, this engagement reflects Nigeria’s dedication to fostering defence alliances that bolster national security and regional leadership.
