Al-Azhar University Praises Kano State Government’s Commitment to Islamic Education, Awards 50 Scholarships

Al-Azhar University of Cairo, Egypt, has commended the Kano State Government for its unwavering support in advancing Islamic education through collaborative projects in the state.

During a project supervision visit on Sunday, the university’s representative, Daha Muzayyan, lauded the state’s efforts in fostering Islamic learning. He was received by the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, represented by the Director of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Safiyanu Abubakar.

Muzayyan announced that 50 students from Kano have been awarded full scholarships to study Shari’a Law at Al-Azhar University, with beneficiaries already screened for the program. Additionally, the university has deployed three expert instructors to Kano to teach Islamic courses. He further revealed that 27 students from Abdullahi Bayero College of Qur’anic Studies are receiving advanced guidance in Qur’anic memorization using diverse Qira’at (recitation styles).

Expressing gratitude for the partnership, Muzayyan pledged Al-Azhar’s continued collaboration with the Kano State Government to enhance Islamic education. He also congratulated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on his two-year anniversary, praising his administration’s dedication to education through impactful policies.

In response, Dr. Ali Makoda reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to elevating the standards of Islamiyya and Qur’anic schools. He thanked Al-Azhar University for its support, emphasizing the administration’s resolve to prioritize education.

Dr. Abdulkareem Kurawa, Al-Azhar’s Project Coordinator in Kano, highlighted that sustained collaboration would unlock further interventions from the university, benefiting the state’s educational sector.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in promoting Islamic scholarship and educational development in Kano State.

Al-Azhar University recently awarded 50 full scholarships to Kano students for Shari’a Law studies, with selected candidates set to begin their programs.
