KANO STATE PROBES 379 “UNIDENTIFIED ” WORKERS AMID PAYROLL SCANDAL

Kano State Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, today inaugurated a 9-member fact-finding committee to investigate 379 unidentified local government staff suspected of illegally collecting salaries.
The move follows public outcry over salary discrepancies and the discovery of irregularities during a statewide payroll audit. The committee will determine whether the flagged staff are retired, deceased, or fraudulently retained on the payroll.
“These findings demand urgent action to protect public funds,” stated Alhaji Musa. The committee, chaired by Hajiya Kubra Iman (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Culture), has a two-week deadline to Verify the employment status of all 379 individuals, Recommend recovery methods for misappropriated salaries, As well as to Propose systemic reforms to prevent future breaches.
The Head of Service warned that the investigation would be thorough, urging members to act with “diligence and fear of Allah.” The committee includes directors from SUBEB, local government payroll units, and the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
