DEFENCE MINISTER ENDORSES SENATE’S NATIONAL SECURITY SUMMIT, HIGHLIGHTS CRUCIAL NEED FOR ACTION
The Honourable Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru, CON, mni, has expressed strong support for the 10th Senate’s upcoming two-day National Security Summit, calling it a timely effort to address Nigeria’s pressing security challenges.
Speaking at the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing on the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the Minister acknowledged the summit’s potential as a forum for meaningful dialogue but underscored the necessity of translating discussions into actionable defence strategies.
In response to a question from Fame News, Badaru stated: “A summit allows us to gather diverse perspectives, refine our approach, and ultimately strengthen our strategy through decisive action. That is how real change is achieved.”
He praised the National Assembly’s initiative to unite stakeholders, describing it as a “commendable step toward inclusive policy-making.” However, he emphasized that dialogue must yield tangible results. “The National Assembly is fostering crucial discussions on security. I’ve personally engaged former Defence Ministers and Service Chiefs to analyze past and present challenges—and identify solutions. I’m confident the current leadership is doing the same,”he added.
Concluding his remarks, the Minister reaffirmed that while the summit marks positive progress, lasting success hinges on the development, refinement, and execution of robust defence strategies—not just debate.
