Kano State Leads Education Reform Ahead of 2025 Nigeria Education Forum Summit—-State Allocates Over 30% of Budget to Education, Unveils Major Development Initiatives
In preparation for the 2025 Nigeria Education Forum Summit, the Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to revolutionizing education through strategic investments and policy reforms.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Summit’s Steering Committee in Abuja, Kano State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, outlined the state’s aggressive efforts to tackle systemic challenges. Under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano has allocated 29.75% (2024) and 31.5% (2025) of its budget to education—the highest in recent history—to address infrastructure gaps, teacher training, and out-of-school children.
Key Initiatives Underway:
-State of Emergency on Education: Declared to fast-track solutions for dilapidated schools, low enrollment, and inadequate resources.
– Massive Infrastructure Upgrade: Construction and renovation of schools, distribution of learning materials, and free uniforms to boost access.
Education Reform Agenda Policy: Launched after the Kano Education Recovery Conference to ensure sustainable progress.
Dr. Makoda emphasized Kano’s active role in the upcoming Summit, stating, “We will fully represent our plans and needs, backed by our State Education Steering Committee and Kano State Education Council.” He pledged the state’s full cooperation for the Summit’s success.
Scheduled for December 2025, the Nigeria Education Forum Summit will convene stakeholders from all 36 states to align strategies with the Federal Ministry of Education’s objectives.
