Barau FC Keeps Super 8 Hopes Alive with Crucial Victory Over Jigawa Golden Stars

Barau FC took a major step toward securing a spot in the Nigerian National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against former Nigerian Premier League side Jigawa Golden Stars at the Kazaure Township Stadium.

The match began with an early breakthrough as Saidu Salisu put Barau FC ahead in the 7th minute. Jigawa Golden Stars responded with an equalizer in the 35th minute, but Barau FC quickly regained the lead just a minute later, with Shammasu Muhd netting the decisive goal. The win keeps Barau FC firmly in contention for a playoff berth.

With this result, Barau FC solidifies its second-place position in Group C, accumulating 15 points from 10 matches. Wikki Tourists remain at the top with 17 points, while Gombe United trails closely in third with 15 points but an inferior goal difference.

The away victory sends a strong message to league leaders Wikki Tourists ahead of their upcoming clash at Barau Stadium in Danbatta. Under the guidance of head coach Rabiu Tata, Barau FC has undergone a remarkable transformation, rising from near the bottom of the table to a strong second-place standing.

Coach Tata, who previously served as an assistant, has revitalized the team’s campaign, particularly in the second half of the season. Despite the impressive turnaround, the squad remains focused on finishing strong and securing a historic Super 8 qualification.

Barau FC’s next match promises to be a pivotal encounter as they continue their push for promotion.
