Emir of Kano Advocates for Reinstatement of National Amirul Hajj Role
His Highness, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, has called on the Federal Government to reinstate the appointment of a National Amirul Hajj, a longstanding tradition in Nigeria’s Hajj operations. The Emir made the appeal today while receiving a delegation from the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board at his palace.
Emir Sanusi II emphasized the historical and religious significance of the Amirul Hajj role, tracing its origins to the era of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). He highlighted the importance of appointing a distinguished leader to guide the Nigerian Hajj delegation, ensuring a well-coordinated and spiritually enriching pilgrimage experience.
“The appointment of a National Amirul Hajj should be a consistent and integral part of our Hajj preparations,” the Emir stated. “This tradition fosters unity, discipline, and effective leadership during the sacred journey.”
During the visit, the Director General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Lamin Rabi’u Danbappa, formally invited the Emir to attend the final Hajj demonstration at the Hajj Camp. He also confirmed that all arrangements for the 2025 Hajj airlift, scheduled to commence on **May 13, 2025**, have been finalized.
Alhaji Yusif Lawan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, commended Emir Sanusi II for his steadfast dedication to the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims. He echoed the Emir’s call for the Federal Government to revive the National Amirul Hajj position, underscoring its potential to enhance pilgrimage management.
