Emir of Rano Praises Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for Revitalizing State Zakkah and Hubsi Commission, Urges Expansion to Rural Communities
His Royal Highness, the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, today commended Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, for revitalizing the Kano State Zakkah and Hubsi Commission to its full operational capacity. The Emir made these remarks during a courtesy visit by officials of the commission to his palace in Rano.
Addressing the delegation, the Emir lauded Governor Yusuf’s foresight in reviving the commission, emphasizing its critical role in alleviating the hardships faced by orphans, divorced women, the poor, and other vulnerable groups. “This initiative reflects a profound commitment to uplifting our people. By streamlining Zakkah distribution through this commission, we are directly addressing suffering and fostering communal solidarity,” he stated.
His Royal Highness further urged the commission to prioritize extending its services to local government areas. “Reviving Zakkah and Hubsi committees at the grassroots level will ensure rural communities benefit equally. This expansion will drastically reduce street begging and strengthen social welfare across the state—a truly commendable achievement,” he added.
Earlier in the visit, the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Zakkah and Hubsi Commission, Sheikh Barrister Habibu Dan’almajiri, underscored the religious and societal significance of Zakkah as one of Islam’s five pillars. He highlighted Governor Yusuf’s efforts to reactivate the commission after 22 years of dormancy, transforming it into a proactive body for poverty alleviation.
“Our visit today seeks the Emir’s guidance as we work to deliver efficient services. The commission’s revival aligns with the government’s vision to empower the needy through structured Zakkah collection and distribution,” Sheikh Dan’almajiri explained. He appealed to wealthy individuals, farmers, business owners, and other stakeholders to fulfill their Zakkah obligations, stressing its role in fostering equitable prosperity.
The delegation’s visit marked a collaborative step toward strengthening the commission’s outreach and impact, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to Islamic principles of charity and social justice.
