The Chairperson of Kano State Civil Service Commission, Hajiya Ladidi Ibrahim Garko has led the management of the commission on a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, to congratulate him on his recent appointment by the Executive Governor.
During the visit, the Chairperson, commended Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for appointing Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim as the SSG, describing the decision as a step towards strengthening governance and the civil service. She also used the opportunity to call for the restoration of the commission’s full mandate concerning recruitment, promotion, and discipline within the civil service. She assured the SSG of the commission’s readiness to diligently carry out its constitutional responsibilities.
While addressing key challenges, Ladidi Garko lamented the issue of corruption within the commission, stressing that it has negatively impacted the integrity and efficiency of the civil service. She called for urgent reforms and strict measures to curb the menace, ensuring that the commission operates with transparency and fairness.
Commissioner I of the Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud Umar advocated for the digitalisation of the commission’s registry to safeguard official records and enhance efficiency.
Similarly, Commissioner II of the Commission, Alhaji Ado Muhammad Danbatta, reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the smooth running of the commission and appealed for the provision of official vehicles to facilitate its operations.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Sani Shehu Minjibir, congratulated the SSG and commended the government for renovating the commission’s office complex, thereby creating a conducive working environment for staff.
Responding, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim expressed optimism about the current administration’s commitment to enhancing the integrity of the civil service. He emphasized that the Governor had made the right decision in appointing competent individuals to lead the commission. While reaffirming the administration’s support for the commission, he assured that its mandate and integrity would be fully restored in line with the government’s reform agenda.
He said the visit further strengthened the collaboration between the Civil Service Commission and the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, fostering efforts toward an efficient and transparent civil service system in the state.
