The trending direction of the current global political, economic and social directions have been “Globalization Policy”. The system has been under implementation in both advanced and less advanced countries since early 1990s.
The system had three key elements and principles:
1. Democratization
2. Integration of global economy
3. Multiculturalism.
Many experts have spoken about the system and still the system is the leading light that guides the global political leaders and economic stakeholders. On the other hand the newly elected President of United States of America Donald Trump has decided to get out of the World Health Organization. And he signed up more than 200 executive orders in less than 24 hours out of 1460 days of his office’s tenure (4years).
Hence, is Globalization Policy is no more as a global directions and President Donald Trump meant his slogan of “America First” under implementation especially on his policy to pushed out of more than 12m immigrants out of America? Does the Globalization Policy dead as said by former UK’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown in 2004? Or on the other hand the “Beijing Consensus” of 2004 will emerge to replace Globalization Policy?
The 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, and his stance on globalization policy have sparked intense debate. As mentioned mentioned above globalization has been the trending direction in global politics, economics, and social spheres, with three key elements: democratization, integration of the global economy, and multiculturalism.
However, Trump’s presidency marked a significant shift in the US approach to globalization. His decision to withdraw from the World Health Organization and signing over 200 executive orders in less than 24 hours raised eyebrows. But what did it really mean for globalization? Was Trump’s “America First” policy a rejection of globalization, or was it a cleverly disguised neocon neoliberalism, as some experts suggest?
Trump’s anti-globalization rhetoric was a hallmark of his campaign, but experts argue that his policies didn’t necessarily reflect a complete rejection of globalization. Instead, they represented a desire to renegotiate the terms of globalization to benefit the USA.
The push to remove 12 million immigrants from Latin America was a contentious issue, and many saw it as a manifestation of Trump’s “America First” policy.
However, it’s essential to consider the complexities of globalization and its impact on different countries and communities especially in the Global Southern Hemisphere. Hence, our President His Excellency Ahmed Bola Tunubu should learn a lesson on how he implement the World Bank/IMF’s 10 prescription. Meaning that the world is changing and will continue to change till eternity.
In conclusion, Trump’s presidency marked a significant turning point in the globalization debate. While his policies and rhetoric seemed to reject globalization, experts argue that it was more about renegotiating the terms to benefit the USA. As the world continues to grapple with the complexities of globalization, it’s crucial to consider multiple perspectives and nuances.
