The African Muslim Media Practitioners Organisation (AMMPO) unequivocally condemns the apparent sabotage of Kano and Rivers States by withholding their constitutionally mandated financial allocations from the Federal Government. This action represents a grave injustice, undermining the rights and welfare of the citizens of these states and setting a dangerous precedent in governance and national unity.
The Federal Government has a constitutional obligation to ensure equitable distribution of resources to all states, irrespective of political affiliations or other interests. The withholding of financial allocations disrupts the developmental progress of Kano and Rivers States, crippling essential services such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and other critical sectors that directly impact the daily lives of millions of Nigerians.
It is particularly concerning that this act appears to target two economically significant states, thereby risking national stability and cohesion. Such a move could erode public trust in the federal system and fuel regional discontent. AMMPO views this as an assault on the principles of justice, equity, and fairness that should guide the governance of a diverse and democratic nation like Nigeria.
The African Muslim Media Practitioners Organisation calls on:
1. The Federal Government to immediately release the financial allocations to Kano and Rivers States without any further delay.
2. The National Assembly to investigate this issue thoroughly and ensure that no state is unfairly treated in the allocation of federal resources.
3. Civil society organizations, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to unite in demanding accountability and fairness in the disbursement of federal allocations.
We must not allow political considerations or any form of bias to jeopardize the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. AMMPO remains committed to advocating for transparency, justice, and fairness in the governance of our great nation.
Let us remember that the progress of any part of Nigeria contributes to the progress of the entire nation. We urge all stakeholders to act in the interest of unity, peace, and prosperity.
