Tinubu Postpones Foreign Trips, Orders Heightened Security Response to Kebbi Abductions and Kwara Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled official trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following fresh security concerns arising from the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State. The President is awaiting further security briefings before rescheduling his travel plans.

In response to a request from the Governor of Kwara State, President Tinubu has directed the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area to restore calm and prevent further violence. He also ordered the Nigeria Police Force to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend the bandits responsible for the attack on the church.

The President had been scheduled to depart Abuja for the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa before proceeding to Angola for the 7th AU-EU Summit. However, the recent security developments prompted him to suspend these engagements to closely monitor the situation and ensure swift action.

President Tinubu is awaiting detailed reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, as well as assessments from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services concerning the Kwara incident. He reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the 24 abducted schoolgirls and to intensify efforts toward improved public safety.
