Kano Govt Demolishes Illegal Structures on Recreational Land in Sharada

By Editor

The Kano State Government has intensified efforts to enforce urban planning regulations as the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning carried out another demolition exercise targeting illegal structures within the metropolis.

The operation, conducted at Sharada Ja’en in Gwale Local Government Area, was personally supervised by the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar.

The exercise followed reports that some individuals had allegedly erected commercial structures on land belonging to the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) without proper approval.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the demolition, the commissioner emphasized that any future development on the site must strictly comply with the standards set by the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA).

He explained that the land had been designated for recreational and leisure purposes, not for commercial activities, adding that the state government has taken oversight of the area to ensure proper utilization.

“The land is meant for recreation and public use. Any structure to be erected must follow approved KNUPDA guidelines,” the commissioner stated.

He noted that the demolition targeted unauthorized structures that encroached on government land and public spaces, describing such developments as a threat to orderly urban growth and proper infrastructure planning.

Abduljabbar Muhammad Umar further warned that the government would continue to monitor developments across the metropolis and take firm action against violators of land use and planning regulations.

He added that the exercise forms part of the state government’s broader urban renewal and land management programme aimed at sanitizing the metropolis, protecting public lands, and ensuring strict compliance with zoning regulations.
