SSR Auwalu Sani Rogo Apologises to Journalist, Reaffirms Media Partnership

A senior official of the Kano State Government, SSR Auwalu Sani Rogo, has formally apologised to a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abdulbaki Ali Ahmed Sharifai, over a public insult directed at him.
The apology was tendered on Wednesday at the office of the Commissioner, Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, during a reconciliation meeting convened to resolve the matter amicably.

The meeting was attended by members of the Kano Online Media Chapel Executive Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Abdulƙadir Dangambo, alongside directors of the ministry and veteran journalist and former NUJ Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Datti Arzai.
Speaking at the meeting, Commissioner Waiya urged the SSR and other government officials to maintain a cordial and respectful working relationship with journalists in the overall interest of Kano State’s development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with media professionals, acknowledging their vital role in informing the public about government policies, programmes, and initiatives.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abdulƙadir Dangambo, commended the commissioner for his timely intervention in resolving the issue. He described the incident as unfortunate and advised public officials to recognise and respect the roles and responsibilities of journalists. “We are partners in progress towards nation-building, especially in a democratic dispensation,” he stated.
The incident reportedly occurred during the Argungu Fishing Festival, where the SSR allegedly directed the public insult at the journalist.
