Procurement Reform Gains Momentum as MPPPME Partners BPP for National Strategy Review

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) convened a high-level Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting on Procurement Reform and MAP Assessment for the National Procurement Strategy, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening transparency, accountability, efficiency, and value for money in the management of public resources nationwide.
In a statement signed by Sagiru Ado Abubakar Information Officer, MPPPME disclosed that, The engagement brought together key stakeholders to review progress and chart a sustainable roadmap for a comprehensive public procurement reform programme. The meeting focused on enhancing institutional frameworks and aligning procurement practices with global best standards to ensure improved governance outcomes.
Representing the Honourable Commissioner of the Kano State Ministry of Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME), Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Garba Adamu, conveyed the Commissioner’s apology for his unavoidable absence due to another official engagement. He reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting reforms that promote transparency and accountability in public procurement processes.
Engr. Adamu expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his consistent support toward procurement reforms in the state. He particularly highlighted the Governor’s recent approval for the establishment of a Digital Public Procurement Portal, describing it as a landmark initiative that will significantly enhance transparency, digital efficiency, and ease of compliance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
The Permanent Secretary further commended the Kano State Government for enacting the Public Procurement Law, which now serves as a benchmark for compliance among MDAs. He emphasized that no project is awarded in the state without the issuance of a “No Objection Certificate” from the Ministry, underscoring the government’s firm stance on due process.
According to him, since the inception of the current administration, Kano State has recorded notable progress in procurement compliance and effective project implementation. He stressed that procurement reform remains a strategic tool for strengthening government policies and programmes, ultimately improving service delivery and promoting sustainable development for the people of Kano State.
