Kano in Mourning as Hoodlums Kill NSCDC Officer on Duty

Kano State was thrown into shock and outrage on Friday following the killing of a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdurrauf Sheriff, who was allegedly stabbed to death by suspected hoodlums while on official duty.
The tragic incident occurred along Gyadi Gyadi Court Road, where the NSCDC volunteer was said to be lawfully carrying out his assigned responsibilities before he was attacked by the assailants during the night of the New Year celebration hosted by the Kano State Government.

Confirming the incident, the Kano State Command of the NSCDC strongly condemned the killing, describing it as a violent, criminal, and unacceptable act against an officer discharging his legitimate duties in service to the public.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Corps disclosed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

“The Command wishes to inform the general public that four suspects were arrested with dangerous weapons, including a hacksaw, Danbida, and suspected drugs. The suspects are currently in custody and are cooperating with security agencies to ensure that justice is served,” the statement read.
Reacting to the incident, the Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama, expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased and described the loss as painful and tragic. He reassured residents of the state that the Corps remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property.
Commandant Agalama further emphasized the NSCDC’s determination to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies to curb criminal activities and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations have classified the incident as culpable homicide, and the case will be transferred to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and prosecution.
The Command appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, while continuing to support security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance security and crime-fighting efforts across Kano State.
