Former Kano APC Lawmakers Refute Claims of Endorsing Senator Barau Jibrin for 2027 Governorship Contest

Former members of the Kano State House of Assembly have strongly refuted a media report alleging that they endorsed the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election. The ex-legislators described the report as false, misleading, and completely disconnected from the purpose of their recent meeting with the Senator.
Addressing journalists shortly after the publication circulated, one of the former lawmakers—who requested anonymity—clarified that the gathering with Senator Barau had no political endorsement agenda. He explained that the lawmakers attended the meeting solely because the Senator, a key stakeholder of the APC in Kano, had invited them for discussions concerning the progress and unity of the party. At no time, he stressed, did they declare support for any aspirant.
“We were surprised when we saw the fabricated report claiming we endorsed Senator Barau,” he said. “The meeting focused on party matters and strengthening internal cohesion. Any claim suggesting an endorsement is simply untrue and misleading.”
Another former lawmaker who attended the meeting also condemned the publication as irresponsible and capable of creating unnecessary tension within the party. He reiterated that their discussions revolved around unity and preparations for the 2027 elections, not the selection or endorsement of a governorship candidate. He added that the APC has established procedures for selecting its flag bearer, and the former legislators remain committed to supporting whoever emerges through the party’s democratic process.
He further revealed that the misleading report nearly triggered avoidable discord among those present at the meeting, prompting them to convene an emergency session to address the misinformation. “We decided to meet again to clarify the issue and ensure that no one is misled. No endorsement was made for Senator Barau or any other aspirant,” he affirmed.
Collectively, the former lawmakers called on APC members and the general public to disregard the viral publication, describing it as baseless and lacking credibility. They maintained that as stakeholders, they would continue engaging with all aspirants who seek their counsel, while firmly upholding the party’s internal processes and unity.
