The Senate Committee on Communications has successfully concluded the screening of nominees for appointment to the Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
During the screening, Senator Babangida Hussaini (Walin Kazaure) representing Jigawa North West District, urged the nominees to bring their wealth of experience to the role, emphasizing the need for proven strategic leadership, innovation, and institution-building across multiple sectors.
The Senate Committee on the North West Development Commission highlighted the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, expanding broadband access to rural communities, and ensuring transparency and efficiency within the communications sector.
Senator Babangida Hussaini further stated that the telecommunications industry remains a vital driver of Nigeria’s economy.
He stressed that the new board must implement policies and initiatives that promote innovation, inclusivity, and national development especially in the revote area like his senatorial district .
He drew the attention of the members to the need to broaden ICT penetration, emphasizing that the level of ICT development in his constituency Jigawa Northwest is very poor to implement policies and initiatives that promote innovation, inclusivity, revote area like his senatorial district .
Senator Babangida Hussaini explained that the lack of access to internet connectivity means young people in the community are also deprived of digital solutions in many areas and federal government policies, saying Internet access is important in rural areas will foster educational advancement, promotes economic and financial inclusion, and provides access to vital information and services.
