Jungle Justice in Edo State

The recent brutal killings of innocent citizens of Kano State in Edo State is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of ignorance and illiteracy about human rights of citizens to feel free to travel to any part of the country. The senseless murder of a traditional hunter from Kano State is a lamentable, barbaric, and uncalled-for act that has sent shockwaves across the nation. Kudos to the Northern Governors’ forum for their quick comments on the killings.
*A Culture of Impunity:
The perpetuation of jungle justice in Edo State is a clear indication of a culture of impunity, where individuals take the law into their own hands, disregarding the fundamental human rights of others. This culture of violence and lawlessness is often fueled by ignorance, misinformation, and a lack of education on human rights of Nigerian citizens to move into everywhere in the country.
*Human Rights Violations:
The killing of the traditional hunter from Kano State is a gross violation of his fundamental human rights, including the right to life, dignity, and freedom from discrimination. It is essential that the perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to justice, and that the government takes concrete steps to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directives to the security personnel to fish out those who are responsible for the crime and be brought to justice.
*Education and Awareness:
Education and awareness about human rights are critical in preventing such incidents. It is essential that the government, civil society organizations, and community leaders to work together to educate the public about the importance of human rights and the rule of law.
*A Call to Action
The government of Edo State and the Federal Government must take immediate action to:
1. Investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
2. Must provide compensation to the family of the victim.
3. Implement education and awareness programs to promote human rights and the rule of law.
4. Establish community-based initiatives to prevent jungle justice and promote peaceful coexistence among citizens.
5. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should pay a condolence visit to the families and tremendously be compensated ASAP.
Conclusively:
The killing of the traditional hunter from Kano State is a tragic reminder of the need for education, awareness, and action to promote awareness, human rights and the rule of law which will promote unity, stability and harmonious relationship between Nigerians. It is essential that we must work together to create a society where the fundamental human rights of all individuals are respected and protected. May God bless Nigeria.
