Deputy Governor Urges Tertiary Institutions to Strive for Excellence in Academic Results

The Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has urged the management of state-owned tertiary institutions to maximize efforts in achieving academic excellence.

Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, who is also the Deputy Governor of the state, gave the charge during a continuation of a special meeting with heads of tertiary institutions, the Executive Secretary of Scholarships, top ministry officials, and key stakeholders on Thursday in his office.

The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the commitment and performance of state-owned higher institutions and other agency.

“I am truly encouraged; you have raised my hopes for our institutions,”
“We have the resources, economy, population, and manpower, and undoubtedly, we will achieve our goals,” he maintained.

Comrade Abdussalam called on the stakeholders to think innovatively, exploring and harnessing academic support from individuals, groups, and donors worldwide. He stressed the need to move away from over-reliance on government allocations due to the prevailing economic challenges in the country.

The Deputy Governor reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration to providing access to higher education for both urban and rural youths across the state.

He also assured stakeholders that the government would rebrand the Ministry for Higher Education to effectively address its challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the heads of institutions, the Provost of Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Professor Balarabe Abubakar Jakada, commended the Commissioner for his dedication to reforming the sector. He pledged unwavering support from the institutions’ leadership.

The meeting, which was highly interactive and productive, concluded with presentations of reports from five institutions, including AKCILS, KACEPS, YUMCEP Ghari, RMK Tudun Wada, and Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso.
