Following due process in the award of contracts of projects by government ministries, departments and agencies has been described as the sure way of protecting the interest of the government.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi made the assertion while receiving a delegation from the Ministry for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation on an advocacy visit in his office.
He said Following due process in the award of contracts will ensure transparency and accountability which is beneficial to the government.
Barrister Haruna Dederi added that the two ministries have a strong relationship in terms of following rules and regulations governing the conduct of government policies and activities in the state.
He called on the ministry to always ensure that ministry for justice is involved whenever a contract will be awarded by any government ministry, department and agency especially in writing contract agreements between the government and contractors instead of involving private lawyers in order to protect the interest of the government.
He then expressed happiness for the visit which he described as beneficial and educative and assured of the ministry’s support whenever the need arise.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation who is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Mustapha Madaki Huguma said they were on an advocacy visit to the ministry for justice which is aimed at sensitising relevant stakeholders on the functions of the ministry in relation to their schedules of duties with a view of having synergy for the overall development of the state.
Alhaji Mustapha Madaki Huguma said the present administration of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf upgraded Public Procurement Bureau to a status of Ministfy in order to ensure Transparency, Accountability, Value for Money and Maximising economic benefits in procurements of goods, works and services which made it imperative for the ministry to embark on advocacy visits to relevant organisations in the state.
He then thanked the Attorney General and management staff of the ministry for justice for the warmed reception accorded to them and a successful deliberations on the purpose of the visit.
